EWC codes

The European Waste Catalogue (EWC) is a list of descriptions that classifies waste into categories according to how these wastes have been produced. These EWC codes are required to be used when completing duty of care waste transfer notes and hazardous waste consignment note documentation under current legislation guidelines.

Accepted European Waste Catalogue (EWC) codes

We accept over 300 European Waste Catalogue (EWC) codes and complete testing in our on-site waste analysis laboratory to determine whether your waste is suitable for our aerobic plant or anaerobic plant.

Indicative waste types accepted include:

  • Alcohols (e.g. brewery wastes, wine, gin, hand sanitiser, methanol, ethanol, IPA, butanols etc)
  • Industrial reagents (AdBlue, antifreeze, monoethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol)
  • Liquid food and drink waste
  • Organic and hydrocarbon or petroleum waste streams (e.g. tank cleaning, process water from solvent recovery, pharmaceutical wastes, paint industry etc)
  • Water miscible solvents
  • Interceptor waste
  • Shipping wastewater washings
  • Liquids with minimal solids (treatment plant dependent)
  • Leachates and run-off water
  • Contaminated fire water
  • Agricultural wastewater
  • Pharmaceutical and organic chemical manufacturing waste
  • Mining, drilling and civil wastewater
  • Engineering/machining water soluble oils

Solvent and liquid waste treated in our aerobic plant is given a D08 waste disposal code, whilst our anaerobic plant provides an R03 waste recovery code. This is determined under the Waste Framework Directive in support of waste materials up the waste hierarchy and of companies’ environmental, social and governance strategies.
